What is a monthly tarot reading?
A monthly tarot reading is a spread that gives you a theme and a plan for the month ahead. This free reading draws 3 to 5 cards from the full 78-card Rider-Waite-Smith deck: the theme of the month, the main challenge, the best opportunity, advice and the outcome. Together they show how the month is likely to feel, where to be careful and where to put your effort.
How to use your monthly tarot reading
1. Enter your name for a personal reading, or leave it blank for the shared reading of the month. 2. Choose an area of life to focus on and the number of cards. 3. Press Reveal this month's cards. 4. Read the theme, the outlook and the advice for each card, then choose one intention for the month. Many people read it on the first day of the month and look back at the end of the month to see how it matched.
How your cards are chosen
Your cards are chosen from the 78-card deck using the current month and year, and your name if you entered one. This means the cards stay the same all month, even if you reveal them again, and a new reading appears at the start of every month on your device. Choosing 3, 4 or 5 cards shows the first cards of the same reading, so more cards simply add more detail. The page also shows last month's theme card. Changing the area of life or switching reversed cards on or off changes how the cards are explained, not which cards you receive.
What each position means
Theme of the Month: the overall energy of the month. The Challenge: the main test, with a practical tip. The Opportunity: the best chance to grow or move forward. Your Advice: the attitude that will help you most. The Outcome: how the month is likely to end if you follow the guidance.
Monthly outlook and balance
Each card is scored from its traditional meaning and orientation, and the total becomes the monthly outlook, from Very favourable to A month for rest and patience. The reading also compares your Challenge card and your Opportunity card to show whether opportunities outweigh the challenges, whether they are in balance, or whether you should protect your energy.
Upright and reversed cards
An upright card expresses its energy openly. A reversed card suggests that the energy is blocked, delayed or turned inward, so the guidance becomes gentler. A reversed card is not a bad omen. You can switch reversed cards off if you prefer upright cards.
Using it wisely
A monthly tarot reading is a prompt for reflection, not a forecast of events. Use it to set intentions and to plan your effort, and make your decisions with facts and good advice. It is not a substitute for medical, legal or financial guidance.
Frequently asked questions
What is a monthly tarot reading?
It is a spread that gives you a theme and a plan for the month ahead. This free reading uses 3 to 5 cards: the theme of the month, the challenge, the opportunity, advice and the outcome.
When does my monthly reading change?
Your reading is based on the current month and year on your device, so it stays the same all month and a new reading appears at the start of every month.
Why are my cards the same when I refresh?
Your cards are chosen from the month and your name, not at random each time. This keeps the reading steady for the whole month so that you can reflect on it and look back on it.
Should I choose 3, 4 or 5 cards?
Choose 3 for a quick overview, 4 to add advice and 5 for the full reading including the outcome. The cards are the first cards of the same reading, so more cards just add more detail.
What does the challenge and opportunity balance mean?
It compares your Challenge card and your Opportunity card to show whether opportunities outweigh the challenges, whether they are in balance, or whether you should protect your energy.
How is this different from the weekly tarot reading?
The weekly reading gives three cards that show how one week flows. The monthly reading looks at the bigger picture with a theme, a challenge, an opportunity, advice and an outcome.
What if my cards look negative?
Reversed or challenging cards usually point to areas that need patience or care, not bad luck. The reading explains each one and suggests a gentler approach. You can also switch reversed cards off.
Is this tarot reading free and private?
Yes. It is completely free, and your name stays in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
